PASSIONE DI SORDEVOLO

The Passion of Christ of Sordevolo is a popular theatrical performance that has been staged every five years since 1814 by the people of the Piedmontese town of Sordevolo (BI). It is one of the most important choral performances staged in Italy and attracts over 30,000 spectators from all over the world.

The performance evokes the central event of Christianity: the Passion of Jesus Christ. From June to September, for three evenings a week, 400 members of the community of Sordevolo - extras, actors, musicians and stage workers - bring the Sacred Representation of the Passion of Christ to life, based on a text written in 1496 by Monsignor Giuliano Dati. The performance takes place in a large open-air arena measuring about four thousand square metres, transformed, for the occasion, into a small part of the Holy Land.
