EXILLES CITTÀ

The town of Exilles rose up around its famous Fort, built at the beginning of the 12th century for strategic and defensive purposes. The village is characterised by its late-medieval structure and by the traces of its most illustrious century, the nineteenth, when it had an impressive 3000 inhabitants, 1000 of whom were soldiers. The town flourished with trade and crafting activities and its growing importance earned it recognition as a “City” by Royal Decree.

The historical re-enactment “Exilles Città” draws visitors into a festive and working atmosphere, via evocative 19th century settings and costumes. The programme includes entertainment in various parts of the village with numerous characters in period costumes, the Royal Decree ceremony, Occitan music and dancing, and scenes from everyday life.
