The Val Soana is located in the Gran Paradiso Park. The landscape, however, with lush vegetation due to high atmospheric humidity throughout the year, and with small inhabited areas, is quite unique compared to the rest of the park. The area is rich in broad-leaved woods, consisting mainly of chestnut trees that slowly give way to beech trees when climbing up. Along the paths of the valley, it is very easy to meet the chamois and other animals that inhabit the woods. In the inhabited areas it is not unusual to still hear the patois, a typical French-Provençal dialect.
Access: From Turin take the direct northern road towards Rivarolo, Cuorgnè. After Pont Canavese, follow the SP47 up to Valprato Soana from which, after a few kilometres, you reach Campiglia.
Route: From the small village of Campiglia follow the snow-covered dirt road that passes near a playground for children, after a curve leaving a small deviation to the left, continue right on the Azaria-Barmaion route. At this point, you have to cross a small bridge, the road going up immediately becomes a little steeper. On the left you can see a beautiful waterfall normally icy in the winter months, after a few bends you leave the deviation for the sanctuary of San Besso to the right. Here the slope gradually decreases, and then you get to the beautiful plateau of Azaria near the grange of Randonero.
Continuing on a long straight section that ends at the large isolated hut of Azaria Piccola, on the other side of the stream there is the small church of San Giovanni, which can be reached by crossing the wooden bridge.
Return to the main path and continue until you see the grange of the Barmaion that can be reached with a short but steep climb.
You can return on the other side of the stream through a beautiful pine forest and trying to move in a beautiful snowy forest, then returning near the grange Randolera and descending through the same route to Campiglia you climbed earlier.
