La ricerca della felicità. Cuore, anima e mente

21/10/2026

The second evening of the series of talks Wednesdays of Islamic Wisdom, which explores the theme Heart, Soul and Mind. Representatives from various religious denominations and a secular voice will discuss the topic: • Elena Seishin Viviani, a Buddhist nun of the Soto Zen tradition and Vice-President of the Italian Buddhist Union • Matteo Bergamaschi, lecturer at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italia and member of the Interdiocesan Commission for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue • Amina Croce, youth coordinator for the Italian Islamic Religious Community (Coreis) • Filippo Tempia, researcher and lecturer in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Torino The discussion will be moderated by Mikail Abdallah Mocci of the journal Sacrum et Polis. For some people, happiness is a feeling, a prolonged state of mind that permeates their way of life. For others, it is identified with a fleeting emotion linked to something contingent and external to the person themselves. These two interpretations attribute the source of happiness to the mind or the human soul, respectively. Furthermore, for some, there is the possibility of attaining happiness as a permanent state of being which, through inner work on the heart and character, achieves a degree of fulfilment in satisfaction and gratitude. The happiness of the heart overflows like a raging torrent, filling both the mind and the soul, freeing them from the mirages of momentary fulfilment. An interesting dialogue between religious figures from different traditions and also with ideas drawn from neuroscience, which is currently in the spotlight following the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Medicine.
