A few years ago, at a flea market, I came across an extraordinary archive belonging to an anonymous Italian acrobatic couple who performed in theatres across Europe in the 1930s. I was struck by the fact that the album depicted the balancing acts they performed during their shows. She often holds her partner suspended in the air. It seemed to me a perfect metaphor for the representation of love: a stable yet fragile balance. For this project, inspired by them, I isolated the figures and re-set their acts in a metaphysical and unreal city that I constructed. A long love story."
