Raduno Internazionale dello Spazzacamino

The Vigezzo Valley is considered to be the birthplace of the chimney sweeping profession, so much so that in some maps of the Alps dating back to 1548, it is called "Valle degli Spazzacamini" (Chimneysweep's Valley). The event is divided into two parts: the international meet and the historical re-enactment of chimney sweeping.

The highlight of the meet is represented by the traditional parade through the streets of Santa Maria Maggiore: hundreds of chimneysweeps from all over the world, dressed for work and equipped with tools, walk through the town, divided by country.

During the historical re-enactment, the chimneys of some houses in the old town are cleaned by chimneysweeps using traditional tools.
