L’ARCHITETTO VISIONARIO, ALESSANDRO ANTONELLI

Not always when we look at a building do we wonder who is behind the making of the work. In the case of Alessandro Antonelli, we cannot help but wonder, because he was not only an architect like so many others, but was an absolute innovator of the most important construction techniques in Piedmont.

He was a true visionary capable of creating progressive works, an artist capable of looking to the future while preserving the marks of his past.

His masterpieces are surely the 113-meter-high Mole Antonelliana in Turin and the dome of San Gaudenzio in Novara: these two works changed the identity of these two cities.

But the other buildings and palaces he built are also no less beautiful and reforming, such as the "slice of polenta," or Scaccabarozzi house. Built in 1840, the mansion became famous for its trapezoidal shape (one side of the house measures only 54 cm) due to the fact that the architect was unable to acquire the surrounding land needed to give the mansion a more regular shape.

But of important prestige are the Shrine of the Most Holy Crucifix in Boca and Villa Caccia in Romagnano Sesia.
