CASTELLO DI SAN SEBASTIANO DA PO

The building, recognised today as a castle, is in reality the fruit of successive restorations on the ruins of a medieval castle, which is documented to have existed since 1164. The most incisive transformations can be traced back to the work of Count Paolo Novarina (1750) with additional work in 1764, presumably under the supervision of Bernardo Vittone. During the nineteenth century further changes were made to the facade in accordance with the neoclassical style.
The gallery, frescoed by Pietro Bagetti (beginning of XIX century) is of particular interest, while the park, designed in 1810 by Xavier Kurten, was a study campus of the Università di botanica di Torino and comprises; Italian style garden with parterres of box-wood and roses: orchard as a memorial to medieval apple orchards; garden/park with centuries-old cedars of Lebanon, cypresses, old Japanese maples and botanical rarities. Today the building is used as an accommodation structure.
