CASTELLO DI MONCUCCO TORINESE

The building, surrounded by a solid wall, is characterized by two towers of notable size. The first tower rises up on one side of the castle, while the second tower has been placed right in the center of the building, almost a link between the castle’s two ends. The structure, documented since 1164, is well known because Iacopo da Moncucco, Grand Master of the Order of the Temple, was born here. After the property had changed owners numerous times, the castle was acquired in 1855 by the Municipal Administration which put the school and Museo del Gesso (Plaster Museum) here, which offers demonstrations of the various phases in plaster work and the use of this material in the rural architecture of the Basso Monferrato between the 16th and 19th centuries.
