A total of 526 castles can be found throughout the territory of the Piemonte (Piedmont) Region.
It was in the Late Middle Ages, when many of these houses were built following the crisis of the ordinary functioning of public structures and the consequent instability of politics.
During those times, the castle represented a defense for the community and, not surprisingly, around these fortresses, people began to build walled rural centers and villages, surmounted by a tower, and a drawbridge. The architecture of the castle was based on military and residential functions, which underwent many transformations over the centuries. Today they represent an important historical heritage, the evidence of a rich past with stories, which must be recalled and told.
