THE LOGGIA PAINTED IN THE STYLE OF THE FLEMISH PAINTER BOSCH

At Lagnasco, near Saluzzo, is the Castle of Lagnasco, a castellated complex that incorporates three different buildings, which originated in the late 11th century.

Perhaps not everyone knows that one of the buildings features a loggia decorated with monstrous figures reminiscent of drawings by the great Flemish painter Hieronymus Bosh.

Probably the artist who made it, Pietro Dolce, around 1560, was really inspired by the great Dutch painter: in fact, the hybrid monsters, amphibious demons, and musical instruments that populate the lodge echo the dreamlike character of Bosh's art through a parody of Jesse's tree.

The painter also took up a series of motifs of fantastic beings from medieval illuminated codices and 15th century.
