LA TORRE DELL’OROLOGIO DI AVIGLIANA, IL PRIMO OROLOGIO PUBBLICO DEL PIEMONTE

Perhaps not everyone knows that the Clock Tower, located in the medieval hamlet of Avigliana, and perhaps the first public clock in Piedmont and the second nationwide, was used as the model upon which architect Valentino from Alfredo d'Andrate drew inspiration when he designed the interior of Turin's Borgo Medioevale in Valentino Park for the 1884 General Exhibition.

The same holds true for the adjacent Casa della Porta Ferrata, an imposing residence set in the hamlet of Avigliana where pointed arches, highlighted by terracotta cornices and held up by round masonry pillars, crowned by capitals carved with chimeric and grotesque figures, are the dominant feature.
