Piedmont's Po Valley was already frequented in the Neolithic period by ''green stone seekers,'' that is, seekers of Jadeite, a lithic material of high hardness and aesthetically valuable.
This Jadeite, which today is known as the green stone of Monviso, had spread throughout Europe, even to the British Isles, to be made into axes and other lithic tools, objects of prestige and symbols of power.
Today, some objects from this material are in the Antiquity Museum in Turin (National Archaeological Museum of Piedmont).
