LA CARROZZA DI TUTTI

What better way to understand a city than to observe it through the windows of a tram?

For sure, Edmondo De Amicis thought so. So much so that on a cold morning of 1896, the writer, looking fascinated from the window of his house the trams that crossed Piazza Statuto, decided to get on one of them and let himself be led along the streets of Torino in search of inspiration.

This experience suggested the idea for a story, which came to life at the end of the 1800s, entitled: Everyone's carriage.

Torino boasts of being the first Italian city to have inaugurated, in 1871, the first animal-traction rail transport line.

Then, a few decades later, the first electric lines were finally introduced.
