IL CAMPANILE DI SANTO STEFANO DI BIELLA

The elegant and very tall Romanesque bell tower of the ancient church of S. Stefano, demolished in 1872, is now located near the parish house. Punctuated by nine storeys softened by single and double lancet window openings, the bell tower rises m. 52.60 and has a cornice of hanging arches on each floor and, at the top, a slender octagonal pyramid set between four pinnacles.

During the demolition of the church of S. Stefano Vecchio a gold coin and vases from a tomb were found, dating back to the fifth century AD., testifying to its ancient origins. Priest Albino's tombstone was found in the foundation of the church.
