I CICIU DI VILLAR

On the slopes of the Costa Pragamonti, in the province of Cuneo, there are columns of land overgrown by stone blocks, originating from the erosive action of the water: a total of seventy natural sculptures that constitute the nucleus of the small protected area. Of considerable size, they can reach a height of five meters. Scientifically they are called "earth pyramids," but in this area they are called "ciciu", because of their singular appearance, which makes them look like stocky men.

The local legends give it a fanciful origin: it is said they were hostile disbelievers to the Texan Legion, who as punishment were transformed by San Costanzo into earth and stone puppets, and also what remains of witch-Sabbaths after a hurricane.
