THE DUCHESS’ BISCUITS AND HER ELOPEMENTS

Visiting the historical center of San Giorgio Canavese, a small village in the Canavese area, south of the Anfiteatro Morenico d’Ivrea, it is quite a must to stop by the fascinating Pasticceria Roletti, built at the beginning of the 20th century according to the Liberty style.

With its original furnishings, such as the high boiserie shelves and the lead-bound glass of the entrance door, bearing two of the coats of arms of the Casa Savoia, it still boasts, as in the past, fine confectionery products, including the delicious cream puffs with chantilly cream flavored with Erbaluce wine, and the Biscotti della Duchessa.

The Biscotti della Duchessa are crumbly cocoa cookies produced according to the secret recipe of the founder of the pastry shop, Giuseppe Roletti - " Pinòt Rolet".

In addition to their exquisite taste, they hide a curious story, taking their name from the Duchess of Pistoia Lidia d'Arenberg who, according to a local legend, used the pretext of buying these cookies to cover her elopements.
