CASA BOSSI, PROTAGONISTA DEL ROMANZO “CUORE DI PIETRA” DI SEBASTIANO VASSALLI

Cuore di pietra (Heart of Stone) is a historical novel by Sebastiano Vassalli that tells the story of the events surrounding the affair of the house of Count Basilio Pignatelli, set against the backdrop of major historical events from the beginning of the Kingdom of Italy to the present day.

The novel is beautiful, but what few people know is that the house described in the novel is actually Casa Bossi in Novara, the building situated on Baluardo Quintino Sella, between Mount Rosa and the Dome of San Gaudenzio, in what was one of the city limits "A somewhat odd little town, nestled in the Po Valley, with those No's in the name that makes it so that first of all she denies herself and then it is you who must slowly discover its beauty and refined elegance”.

Casa Bossi is one of the most beautiful and magnificent neoclassical properties in Italy. It was originally built as a Baroque structure, but in 1859 owner Luigi Desanti commissioned Alessandro Antonelli to renovate it.

On that occasion, the architect decided to prepare interventions that would not distort the existing building, but instead enhance its features, thus creating a project of great refinement. The result was a marriage of Baroque neoclassicism and 19th-century elegance.

Casa Bossi has a total area of 6500 square metres and has 200 rooms.

Over the years several owners followed, including some Italian artists such as Antonio Calderara and the Futurist air-painter 'Barbara' (Olga Biglieri), or renowned designers and established professionals such as architect Luigi Vietti and engineer Arialdo Daverio, as well as prominent journalists, poets and writers such as Ignazio Scurto and Sebastiano Vassalli.
