BAUDOLINO, L’EROE DEL ROMANZO STORICO DI UMBERTO ECO

Umberto Eco was born in Alessandria in 1932 and always had a contradictory bond with the Piedmontese city.

However, this does not detract from the fact that one of his most famous historical novels, "Baudolino", was set in the lower Piedmont, at the very place where the future city of Alessandria would rise.

The story, an interweaving of reality and fantasy, recounts the exploits of Baudolino, a peasant with great imagination and resourcefulness who, through his cunning, managed to conquer Frederick Barbarossa by becoming his adopted son.

A very interesting novel, especially worth reading for those who are interested in the birth of Alessandria and want historical information about what Piedmont was like at the time of Barbarossa's invasion.
