TEATRO CIVICO DI TORTONA

Built between 1836 and 1838, to a design by the engineer from Tortona, Pietro Pernigotti, its’ plain neo-classical lines lead to its’ classification as a little jewel of the province of Alessandria. The horseshoe shaped interior with three circles is finely decorated with pictorial friezes and stuccoes. The curtain, created by the painter and set designer from Torino, Luigi Vacca, depicting the myth of “Orpheus and Eurydice” is highly prestigious. Closed in 1952 after being declared unfit for use, it reopened in 1990, after restoration work and functional adaptation. Since its’ reopening, it has been managed by Teatro Stabile di Torino, which presents a range of very different shows: drama, but also cabaret, musicals and operettas.
