TEATRO CIVICO DI MONCALVO

The nineteenth-century Civic Theater has a strong symbolic meaning for the city.

Its history already began in July 1857 when the project of its construction was proposed for the first time to the City Council of Moncalvo. The project, however, despite being considered by the city "as a great public utility", it was postponed.

It was then necessary to wait a few years later, precisely in 1878, to see its construction.

The interior was built with the usual "horseshoe" shape. The outside façade was instead modeled with a sober texture that excluded the "educated" memories of pilasters, columns and pediment, mainly following the references of a mature nineteenth century, evoking measured neo-Renaissance eclecticism.

It was equipped with an audience and two galleries, with the capacity of 350 seats.

The theater became the property of the Municipality in 1922, but only after various restoration works, which took place in 1983; it began to host theatrical performances and events, such as awards and conferences.
