The Museum of the Tap and its Technology in San Maurizio d'Opaglio is unique in the world. It deals with the fascinating and atavistic subject of man's long-suffering relationship with water in a path from which humanity's journey emerges from an unusual point of view: the history of hygiene and technological innovations (of which taps and valves are the fundamental components) that have made it possible to dominate the liquid element, transforming body care from a luxury practice for the few into a mass phenomenon.
The museum project therefore intends to retrace the social history of water and innovations, determining the rise of the tap and valve industrial district in Cusio. The museum does not only represent the municipality of San Maurizio d'Opaglio, but is the expression of a larger territorial and productive district, linked by deep economic and cultural interactions. Reconstructing the history of the tap and valve industry in the Novara area means retracing the industrial and social history of post-unification Italy, a world in which the development of large cities set the pace for a change that was at once economic, social, technological and cultural.
