The need to prevent the approach of an enemy force from the fortress at the bottom of the valley was the basis of the construction, on both sides, with some detached defense works.
The batteria Neghino (Neghino battery) was built on the northern side, an elliptical work project articulated on two floors, and surrounded by a wide covered ditch. In its good preserved condition, it has a large decorated portal, originally accessible by means of a now disappeared drawbridge. The armament was made up of six howitzers placed on the ground floor and five cannons in the western positions of the upper floor. The garrison could reach 100 men. A cistern with 80,000 liters of water and deposits for 20 tons of powders are the main logistic installations.
On the shelves near the rim of the saddle where the battery stands, you will find the remains of the Batteria Mortai del Neghino and the optical telegraph.
