FOSSANO, RIVELLINO DI ROMANISIO 1542

The protective raveline to Romanisio's door, opens along the southern front of the town, which was already there in 1547, that is from the first relief of the town built by the imperial Engineer Gianmaria Olgiati. Everything suggests that the work was carried out starting in 1542, when the construction site of the Salice platform, at the opposite end of today's Via Roma, was now nearing its completion.

Updated in the following decades, the raveline kept its function throughout the modern age and has been recorded with continuity in the drawings drawn up by the engineers who, from time to time, were charged in verifying the state of defenses or improvement proposal. One of the last to graphically represent the work, when by now the military importance of the city was largely lost, was Michelangelo Morello, in the table dedicated to Fossano in the collection of drawings made in the eighties of the seventeenth century.
