CASTELLO MALASPINA

The castle-fortress that looks out over Cremolino, an agricultural-tourist hamlet in the Alto Monferrato, is of ancient origin. The oldest section seems to date back to the year 1000, but it was only with the noble family Malaspina, starting in 1240, that the castle took on its final look. Fortified and placed on high, it served as a look-out and warning post for the surrounding area. The huge, imposing structure consists of a polygonal tower, a keep, and a draw bridge still in use. Before entering the castle, one passes through a walled, medieval hamlet built as an ulterior defense by Isnardo Malaspina in 1640.
