CASTELLO BENSO

Castello "Benso" di Mercenasco stands on a hill to the east of the town, not far from Lake Candia.
Documented as a “castrum” or “receptus”, the structure presents foundations dating back to the XV century. Belonging to the family of Valperga di Masino Counts until the XVI century, it was then handed down to the Marchesi Graneris de la Roche who owned it from the XVII to the XVIII century and then transferred to the marchesi Campans di Brichantea Challanti. At the beginning of the twentieth century the Campans gave the architect Jean Chevalley the task of carrying out the structural transformation and changes in appearance that still characterise it today.
The current proprietors are the Benso di Villamirana Counts who, by making both the inside of the building and the terrace and extensive park available, organise events and ceremonies.
