CHIESA DELLA SS. ANNUNZIATA

The new Church was reconstructed in the 1920s (according to the designs of the architect Giuseppe Gallo), following a markedly Neo-Baroque taste and replacing the former 17th century edifice (designed by Carlo Morello for the Confraternita del SS. Nome di Gesù), which was demolished due to the lack of capacity in 1914. The new site, which has been moved slightly, also enabled the insertion of Via Sant’Ottavia (which had been cut off in 1924) into Via Po. Works started in 1919 and lasted until 1932. On the inside, the main altar, designed by Bernardo Antonio Vittone (and preserved from the previous church) is remarkable, as is the group of polychromatic sculptures of the Addolorata (Our Lady of Sorrows), carved by Giuseppe and Stefano Maria Clemente; finally, from mid-November to mid-January, the mechanic nativity scene, made up of 200 people, of which 100 are moving, is run by a 19th-century electric motor.
