CHIESA DEL CORPUS DOMINI

During the programme of redefining the link between the Palazzo Ducale in Piazza Castello and the seat of the Palazzo Civico in Piazza della Erbe, which was designed by Ascanio Vitozzi, the creation of a church in memory of the Eucharistic miracle of June 6, 1453 was completed. The works for the construction started in 1603, albeit progressing at a slow pace. In 1671, the marble facade was completed following the design of Francesco Lanfranchi. The inside, with just one nave, is decorated in polychromatic marble according to the design of Benedetto Alfieri who worked here in 1752-1753. The altar of the second chapel to the right is the work of Filippo Juvarra while, between the second and the third chapels, an enclosure contains the commemorative stone of the miraculous event.
