Andrea Scanzi’s show focuses on the theatrical Giorgio Gaber – the man who had the courage to step away from television and who, alongside Sandro Luporini, made history. Scanzi is a true Gaber enthusiast: a journalist and writer from Arezzo who graduated with a thesis on Gaber, De André and the singer-songwriters of that generation. Gaber used to say of him: “Why does this twenty-year-old know everything about me?” . Had he not been ill, he would have been co-supervisor of the thesis. Scanzi says: “I am convinced that Gaber and Luporini were at least as prophetic as Pasolini. In every one of their songs and monologues there are elements of incredible lucidity, prophecy and strength. Their stage presence, their mimicry, their prophetic clarity, their anarchic taste for provocation, the (sometimes brutal) courage to ‘throw something out there’ and the fact that they so dramatically anticipated the times make the thinking of Gaber-Luporini, today more than ever, a highly topical reference point for figures in politics, entertainment, culture and our everyday social life. A show to ensure we never forget an exceptional artist.
