Situated in front of Porta Nuova railway station, designed by the architect Jean-Pierre Barillet-Deschamps, it was part of an ensemble commissioned to the same architect which included the development of Piazza Carlina, Piazza Susina, Piazza Bodoni, Piazza Vittorio Veneto, Giardino dei Ripari and the Valentino park, only part of which was carried out. In French style, full of pathways, plants and a small lake with a fountain facing Via Roma. The garden occupies 8,200 square metres and is embellished by a gazebo used for concerts and cultural events. A statue dedicated to Edmondo De Amicis (by Edoardo Rubino) is placed in front of a high-relief depicting children) and a bust of Ernesto Balbo Bertone di Sambuy, former Superintendent of the public gardens of Turin and Mayor of the City between 1883 and 1886, after whom the garden was named in 1926.
