Il Monferrato è European Community of Sport 2017

Monferrato has received the most prestigious award that the European Commission attributes to a capital, a city or a territory in the sports field, namely the European Community of Sport 2017.

Monferrato is an area of 5,069 square kilometers, where 26 large plants, 178 indoor plants and 249 outdoor plants are housed and have 35 sports Federations, with 394 sports associations, 14 sports promotion bodies and 714 sports associations . A territory that aims to enhance all sport disciplines, which also supports historic sports (from tambourine to the elastic ball, up to bocce).

The path leading to the recognition of this territory began in October 2015, a few days before the closing of the Expo2015, when the “Monferrato on Tour” working group decided to apply Monferrato for the Community Sports title.

With this title it has helped to increase accessibility of sporting practice to everyone and promotes the culture of wellbeing and a good lifestyle, starting especially from the youngest, teaching them the ethical value of having an exemplary behavior that creates a positive role. The goal is to make Monferrato become a top destination for, sporting and inclusive, ethical and sustainable tourism. Recognition of just two years from that of the Unesco one, which declared “Patrimonio dell’Umanità il Monferrato” (Monferrato a World Heritage Site), together with Langhe-Roero.
