L'OROLOGIO DEL CAFFE' MULASSANO

On the wall behind the counter of the historic Caffè Mulassano in Turin's Piazza Castello is a very unusual clock.

Positioned in the top left-hand corner, the strange device has only one hand and the numbers are placed in a jumble.

The hand is actually moved electrically by a secret mechanism that is triggered by a button on the case.

This singular clock is not used to calculate time, but to determine who should pay the bill among a group of friends. Whoever gets the highest number pays.

Still today it is working and is available to anyone who wants it.
