LE ROCCHE DEL ROERO

Wild and fascinating, the rock formations constitute the most typical element of the natural landscape of Roero.

Created as a result of erosion, the rock formations stand as an open book on the geological history of Roero: a veritable Eden for paleontologists, botanists, and naturalists. Bare sheer walls, spires, and sand pinnacles in all shades of ochre emerge amidst the somber green of rich, shady vegetation.

The rock formations conditioned the formation and development of the summit settlements themselves, which arose after the year 1000 along the arduous routes connecting the hills of the Tanaro basin with the tributaries of the Po river.

Today, the rock formations offer a thousand routes and fabulous landscapes to trekking and hiking enthusiasts.
