Grotta di Bossea

The Grotta di Bossea is located in the municipality of Frabosa Soprana, at an altitude of 836 m, and is regarded as one of the most beautiful and important caves in Italy. The protected area is managed by the Marguareis Natural Park Management Authority.

Explored in 1850 by a group of valley dwellers led by Domenico Mora, it was the first cave in Italy to be opened to the public, on the 2nd of August 1874, by Senator Giovanni Garelli of Mondovì.

It has been home to a laboratory run by the Scientific Station of Bossea (Cuneo CAI) and the Geo-resources and Territory Department of the Politecnico di Torino since 1969, with the collaboration of the Cuneo branch of the Piedmont ARPA and the Radiation Section of the Valle d'Aosta ARPA.
