Forte di Bramafam
It was built between 1874 and 1889 on the hill which overlooks the valley of Bardonecchia. Inside the Fort of Bramafam there is a museum of the Regio Esercito (Royal Army), where 38 rooms house a series of accurate environmental reconstructions, completed by 160 mannequins wearing original uniforms, 20 cannons of different ages and over 2000 finds of military life.
Forte di Fenestrelle (Fenestrelle)
It is the only one among the 18th century Piemonte forts to still have its original architecture and it is located within the Parco Naturale Regionale Orsiera-Racciavre. Its importance is not limited to its impressive walls and historical placement, but also includes its interior.
Forte di Gavi
The existence of the fortification is documented even before the year 1000, as a simple “castellum”. Located in a strategic position, overlooking the surrounding territory and clanged on a rocky spur, the building had a defensive function. Today, the fort has a star shaped plan, with six acute angled bastions, joined by a curtained wall.
Forte di Vinadio
It is a work of military architecture, among the most impressive of the Alps. The length of the walls is about 1200 meters and the inside walkways, which extend on three levels, reach about 10 kilometres lengthwise. A part of the premises of the Forte houses the permanent exhibition “Montagna in movimento. Percorsi multimediali attraverso le Alpi” (Mountains in movement. Multimedia pathways through the Maritime Alps).
