Villa Remmert

Antique property of the D’Oria family, the Villa, designed at the end of the 19th century, comprised an farming lodge and an English-style park. It later passed into the hands of the Remmerts, an old family of industrials, of Prussian origin, who opened their factories in the Canavese district and in the Valleys of Lanzo, residing in Ciriè. On the strength of an important manufacturing range which included the production of ribbons, braids and laces handmade by its female staff, over 2000 employees were taken on at the beginning of the 20th century to cope with the demands of the French, English and German markets. The Villa was bought in 1988 by the Municipal Council of Ciriè and has been entrusted to the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo since the middle of 2006 to reinforce its commitment to the promotion of contemporary art.
