Alagna Valsesia
Updating
Situated at the foot of Monte Rosa, Alagna has succeeded in earning itself the name of “Freeride Paradise” for the beauty and immensity of the places in which it is possible to go off-piste, skiing, snowboarding and telemarking, making the most of the broad gorges and the steep, narrow channels hat run alongside the ski runs. The Alagna area is still a wild environment, where it is possible to go on splendid excursions, perhaps using the heliski facilities, so more demanding skiers can discover fascinating itineraries in fresh snow, both in winter and spring. The ski resort is part of the Monterosa Ski district, 180 km of ski runs, served by technologically advanced systems, split between the Alagna, Alagna-Wold and Alpe di Mera systems in Piemonte and those of the Valdostan localities of Valle di Gressoney and Val d’Ayas, accessible with a single ski-pass.
An 8-person telecabin with a capacity of 1400 people an hour connects Alagna to Pianalunga (2025 m). From here one can reach Passo dei Salati (2936 m), the link-up point with the Gressoney lift systems, with a “funifor” cableway with an hourly capacity of 800 people, capable of covering a difference in altitude of 900 metres in 6 minutes. The Wold district is 1.5 km from Alagna and comprises a ski-lift which serves two easy ski runs, suitable for everyone and equipped with artificial snow systems. The territory of Alagna stretches inside the High Valsesia Nature Park, Europe’s highest protected area, and is the capital of winter tourism in Valsesia, having succeeded in combining the facilities and atmospheres of a modern tourist locality with the timeless charm of the traditions and culture of the Walsers, the people who, after colonising these valleys in the Middle Ages, had a significant influence on its crafts, architecture, art, language and local cuisine.
