Protected Area of the Bosco delle Sorti della Comunanza
This area includes a vast Apennine territory, which straddles the provinces of Asti and Alessandria and is located between the river Bormida and the river Belbo. We can mainly find here thickets of Quercus pubescens Willd, and in cooler areas sessile oaks, chestnut trees and pedunculate oaks. This Protected Area was established to protect one of the northernmost Mediterranean distribution areas where the Tree heath grows, which is a plant used for the manufacturing of brooms and pipes. Up until the seventeen hundreds this wood was managed by a local collective institution: the Farmer’s Association of Cassine.
