This year the packed opera programme revolves metaphorically around the theme of love, underlying theme also of the classical ballet programme. After Fidelio directed by Mario Martone, between the months of January and June, Tosca, Angel of Fire, Barber of Seville, Madame Butterfly, La Bohème, Rigoletto, Così fan tutte (Thus do they all), Norma and Un ballo in maschera (A masked ball) will be represented. In the year of Italian culture and language in Russia and of Russian culture and language in Italy, the Regio also presents 22 evenings with the Ballet of the Mariinskij Theatre of St.Petersburg, one of the most prestigious ballet corps in the world and a completely sold-out programme: from the classic Swan Lake to Bayadère (never performed at the Regio), from the Polovesian Dances to Le spectre de la rose and Shéhérazade. From 28 September to 6 October, the Musical Director Gianandrea Noseda will be on the podium of the Orchestra and Chorus of the Regio for the entire performance, subdivided into four double concerts, of the symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven.
