XXV Torneo di Maggio at the court of King Arduino
Born in 1987 the costumed event associated with the commemoration of the historical adventure of the Marquis of Ivrea, Arduino, who was crowned King of Italy in 1002 and who, according to tradition, passed through the hamlet of “Corgnate” – the ancient name of Cuorgnè (To). The event has established itself over time: every year in the month of May the small town gets ready to welcome thousands of visitors coming to pay homage to the first King of Italy and his people through celebration. Streets and squares are draped in standards and multicoloured fabrics to host parades, dances and equestrian tournaments. At every hour of the day the roll of the drums of the seven hamlets of the town that are preparing for the big challenge fills the air: the districts, through seven trials, battle it out for two weeks, until the proclamation of the winner of the prize of the Palio dei Borghi (Banner of the Hamlets).
