Gli argenti Tiffany di Palazzo Madama
Gli argenti Tiffany di Palazzo Madama

The presentation of the Tiffany silver opens the new exhibition at Palazzo Madama entitled “Opere in primo piano” (Works in foreground), an initiative dedicated to collections or individual works that have undergone major renovation or extensive studies. From March 17th, after an absence of more than one hundred years, there is the exhibition of silver donated by the United States to Federico Sclopis di Salerano, a lawyer and senator from Torino. The Tiffany service includes a large centerpiece with inner gold coating, flanked by two heads of satyrs with vine leaves and bunches of grapes in their hair, two candlesticks with a female figure and lastly, a pair of bottle coolers with allegorical figures on both sides representing Agriculture and Commerce. The five magnificent pieces testify to the pleasure found in Great Exhibitions of the late nineteenth century for large gold objects, decorated with three-dimensional figures, in an academic and revivalist style.
