Gesù. Il corpo, il volto nell’arte
Gesù. Il corpo, il volto nell’arte

Masterpieces of Andrea Mantegna, Luca della Robbia, Giovanni Bellini, Antonio del Pollaiolo, Correggio, Tiziano, Paolo Veronese, Tintoretto, Annibale and Ludovico Carracci, Guercino, Donatello, Rubens and Michelangelo with his magnificent wooden crucifix sculpture. When would be a better time to discover the ideal way of representing Jesus as a physical being in the works of the greatest artists of Western art from the Paleochristian and Baroque periods than during the showing of the Shroud? The exhibition, on display in the Scuderie Juvarriane of the Reggia di Venaria from April 1 to August 1, 2010, runs in parallel to the religious event, illustrating the ample cultural offering to which it belongs: There are 150 works of art – including a core selection of masterpieces lent for the occasion from the most important museums, churches and Italian and European collections - organised in a way to form a route of rediscovery of the centrality of the body in European thought and for reflection on the link between the human body and divine identity in the cult of the Shroud.
