Da Cezanne a Mondrian
This exhibition represents the third phase of a large project which in two years has brought over 80,000 visitors to Vercelli for the historical masterpieces of the twentieth century, through the selections and artistic intuition of the American Maecenas Peggy Guggenheim. In particular, “Peggy e Solomon R. Guggenheim: the avant-garde of abstraction” brings back to the European public, for the first time, the artistic dialogue between uncle and niece on the theme of abstraction, through a journey that embraces the greatest figures in the history of XX century art. There are more than 50 masterpieces exhibited, among which artists including Cezanne, Georges, Seurat, Braque, Matisse, Delaunay, Klee, Calder stand out together with the Italian artists loved by Peggy, Bacci, Tancredi and Emilio Vedova. Central figures in the exhibition are the two masters of the great European school of abstraction, Vasily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian, particularly loved by the two Guggenheims.
