The Giants of the avant-garde: Miró, Mondrian, Calder
"I giganti dell’Avanguardia: Miró, Mondrian, Calder e le collezioni Guggenheim” (The giants of Avant-garde: Miró, Mondrian, Calder and the Guggenheim collections), hosted from March 3 through June 10 at the Arca in Vercelli, is the fifth exhibition of the fortunate cycle designed and curated by Luca Massimo Barbero for the city of Vercelli, in collaboration with the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Approximately 40 works, including paintings and sculptures, all highly selected, trace the artistic career from the beginning to stardom, of the great masters: Miró, Mondrian, Calder. These three artists embody, in effect, a paradigm of twentieth century avant-garde: on the one hand, Joan Miró with her poetic surrealism, on the other, Piet Mondrian with pure abstraction and, at the center, we find the sculpture by Alexander Calder, a combination of surrealism and abstract components.
