CASTELLO DI CASTEL'ALFERO

The manor of the Castell´Alfero Castle (Castello di Castell´Alfero) was built during the Middle Ages at a time - towards the end of the 13th century - when the city of Asti was reorganizing its own territory and defining its borders. In 1618, Carlo Emanuele I of Savoy ceded the fiefdom of Castell´Alfero to Gerolamo Germonio of Ceva who, for his part, sold it to Alessandro Amico, the Savoy finance administrator, in 1640. The Amico family held on to the property for generations until Count Paolo Giocchino, a plenipotentiary minister for the House of Savoy, died. The present day architecture is the result of the restructuring work entrusted to Benedetto Alfieri in the 18th century.
