Cirie’ is situated at the beginning of the Lanzo Valley near the Stura River and it is to this river and its geographic position that Cirie’ owes much of its good fortune as this contributed to the industrial development of the area in the 1800s. In fact in 1839 there were already several industrial concerns operating in Cirie’. Among them were three silk spinning-mills, a cotton mill, two leather tanneries, two cloth bleaching workshops, and two paper mills... Today almost nothing remains of the industrial Cirie’, however traces of the past are still highly visible. You can visit the Villa Remmert, which was built at the end of the 19th century , and which is surrounded by a beautiful park in the English style. This is where the Remmert family, industrialists of Prussian origin, set up their factories which were active for over one hundred and fifty years. The local government bought the villa for its architectural beauty in 1988 and transformed it into an exhibition hall. Yet another feather in Cirie’s cap is the Doria Palace, built in the 1500s and transformed in the following century, in accordance with the model of homes for those of princely rank, into a royal hunting lodge. Today it is the seat of the Local Council, the home of a library which contains the precious volumes donated by the D’Oria heirs in 1923 and the “quadreria dei D’Oria”, and an exhibition hall.
