Pinerolo

Pinerolo
Pinerolo

Pinerolo is said to be the most French of Italian cities, (“Nice in Piedmont” according to writer Edmondo de Amicis), because of its mild climate and the beauty of its architecture. The city lies at the entrance to the Chisone Valley, with the Cozie Alps rising behind it. For visitors, Pinerolo has a full calendar of interesting cultural events and fascinating museums like the Italian Cavalry Museum (Museum dell’Arma della Cavalleria). Or they can stroll along the streets of the city centre under the three kilometres of covered arcades and visit the historic San Donato cathedral and Palazzo Vittone. But no-one should leave Pinereolo without sampling a slice of Galup panettone, the city’s almond topped version of the national Christmas cake.

Historical reenactments

La Maschera di Ferro (The Man in the Iron Mask), October
The city re-enacts the arrival, in August 1669, of the iron-masked prisoner accompanied by the Musketeers, with parades and shows in period costumes.
