Giardino di Villa Abegg, ex Vigna di Madama Reale
The gardens were part of the Vineyard of Royal Madame Cristiana of France, which was located on Torino's hill in the San Vito area in the twenties of the seventeenth century, close to the Valentino Palace, on the opposite bank of the Po river. With its dominant position on the river, in the middle of a natural basin, the garden used the soil inclination for the layout of sloping terraces in the shape of a "theatre" in the upstream part. Whereas the Italian-style plan gardens develop along the main facade of the annexed Savoy residence. Part of the property, according to the custom of the period, was used as vineyard, hence the characteristic name of numerous noble residence located on the hills. After the death of the Duchess, the gardens were renovated and the ground was levelled. Also the subsequent subdivision of the property progressively cancelled, between the nineteenth and the twentieth century, the system of paths characterising the artificial plane, which was replaced with a large grassy parterre irregularly shaped, with a romantic pond on the eastern part.
