Alba
Alba

More than 1,206 of Italy’s 8,101 ‘comuni’ (towns) can be found within the borders of Piemonte; of these, over 600 have less than 1,000 inhabitants. With a surface area of 25,399 square kilometres, divided into eight provinces (Torino, Alessandria, Asti, Biella, Cuneo, Novara, Vercelli, Verbania), Piemonte is the largest Italian region after Sicily. Among the many other Piemonte towns, Alba with its Medieval old town and its ‘hundred’ towers, the Baroque Casale Monferrato, Cherasco and its sixteenth-century walls, defined by Napoleon as ‘the most beautiful corner of Italy’, and also Biella and the charming towns in the province of Torino stand out, without forgetting the numerous villages and small towns where old traditions survive, gifting striking sceneries and horizons to the whole region.
